Born and brought up in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, I grew up listening to India's semi-classical and Ghazal maestros - Begum Akhtar, Farida Khanum, Ustaad Mehdi Hassan, Ghulaam Ali Khaan saab. I loved listening to Classical but attempted to copy and sing only light as their was no formal training.

As for my professional journey, I started as a banker and remained that for initial 5 years. Spent the next 8 years within the ITeS & BPO sphere before joining Deloitte in 2011 which is where I currently work.
My collesagues at Deloitte have had a big role to play in reviving my pursuits towards singing. I kept music away for a very long period and with inspiration from colleagues, brought it back to my life in 2013.
While I am not at work, I like to spend time listening to music, singing and recording myself, reading, visiting museums and/or art galleries and last but not the least, saree shopping.
Sarees have, are and will remain my second love after music.
A proud mother of a naughty seven years old, am a very curious person by nature, I love to explore 'hows' and 'whys' to things, cannot help but deliberate endlessly, and relish holding issue based discussions and debates.
The best alternative career for me would have been a degree in law and endless hours in courtroom debates. These days my son beats me to it btw....
Passionately inclined towards Music (light vocals), I used to perform professionally until 2005 while I was based out of Mumbai and had more opportunities to carry through my artistic pursuits along with my corporate career. It is merely reduced to a hobby now, however, I still love to grab any opportunity to attend Indian Classical and Ghazal concerts to unwind and relax.
In 2013, after a very long self-imposed break, I brought music back to my life. In June 2013, I started my YouTube channel and uploaded some of my home recordings there. The overwhelming response and requests to sing more inspired me to launch my own website. Subsequently, www.musicbyshailly.com was founded on October 4, 2013. I am curious to see the response and hope for a yielding result.
I am someone who cherishes listening to a singer singing in the most raw form because that tells you exactly how much of mettle the singer has. Digital recording cover up for all fallacies.
